WHAT
IS A GREEN FLAG TRAIL?
- It has well-maintained
trail markers, a good map and is safe to hike;
- It has a trustworthy
description of the trail environment (pristine or rural) and a correct
list of accommodation facilities;;
- an objective
rating of the difficulty level (on a scale of 1 to 10); and
- a sound
nature conservation maintenance record. Read

WHO ARE USING GREEN FLAG ACCREDITATION?
There seems to be a notable growth in hiking trail development recently and the new Green Flag Accreditation System is catching on very well. It has the blessing of SAHTOA and the newly established Hiking Organization of SA (HOSA) as well as both the major booking/marketing agencies and is being applied to trails of e.g. KZN Wildlife, KLF and MTO (Safcol), Cape Nature, SANParks, Johannesburg City Council, etc..
