Basic Trail Description

The trail name originates from the Pedi name “Black Mountain”. There are various circle routes with shorter routes to follow; catering for all derees of fitness ( See trail map). The standard trail runs from Dome Rock camp via Black Eagle loop to the Kanniedood Camp transversing impressive views over surrounding landscape. Keep a watch out for the Black Eagles which breed in the cliffs and enjoy the undisturbed bushveld.

From the Kanniedood Camp one has the option of either hiking directly along the Mohlokwane river loop (160 kCal) or the longer Tshesane moutainy loop (427 kCal). Both the Klipspringer and Tshesane loops could be used as short day walks from Dome Rock and back.

The different camps can accommodate the number of people as follows:

  • Kanniedood - 18
  • Tent Camp - 16
  • Dome Rock - 24
