Basic Trail Description:
The Stamvrug Hiking Trails
are situated 25 km outside Bela-Bela (Warmbaths), Limpopo. It consists
of seven different routes. The network consists of the Kloof, Leopard,
Escarpment, Moepel, Game, Zebra and Porcupine trails. A total distance
of 62,3 kilometers. The Kloof and Zebra Trails, or alternatively the Leopard
and Porcupine Trails form a two day circular trail. The Escapement, Moepel
and Game Trails are one day circular trails of various lengths and grades
of difficulty.
The main vegetation type can be considered to be Silver cluster-leaf Terminalia
sericea (Vaalbos) and wild Syringa Burkea Africana veld, typical of the
Waterberg-bushveld.
Breathtaking kloofs, with lovely swimming holes, are the main attraction, but stunning views occur along the trails.
A large variety of game is to be seen on the trails. Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebees, Kudu etc. have been introduced while "local" game abounds varying from Leopard and Brown Hyena through Bushbuck, Reedbuck and Klipspringer to the "little guys". An abundance of birdlife is to be watched and Bateleur is proud to be associated with Birdlife South Africa through its inclusion as favoured destination for birders on the "Limpopo Birding Route". Stargazers are amongst Bateleur's most frequent visitors.
