Basic Trail Description:

The Rietpoort Educational Trails are situated in the North West Province outside Parys on the R53 to Potchefstroom. These trails have been specifically designer with the primary school learner in mind while hiking the trail the learners will gain information about the ecology of thus area as well as the Vredefort dome being listed as a World Heritage site.

The hiker will get more knowledge about the following trees: Wildpear, Puzzle bush, Jacket - plum and the Cross-Berry. While hiking the trail one will pass an earth dam with clear fountain water. Hiking on top of the mountain you will have a 360 degree view over the Vredefort Dome.

Hiking silently you may come across Duiker, Vervet monkeys and porcupine. The area is also very rich with bird life.
