Basic Trail Description: The trail system consists of three base camps of two huts each: (A) the Dokolewa Pools and De Hoek huts; (B) the Seepsteen and Woodbush huts; and (C) the Waterfall and Broederstroom huts (see Location Map). Hikers can start from any one of these huts and hike for either a long weekend (3 days) on the Dokolewa Section or on the Debengeni Section for a two day hike. Longer alternatives are possible. In each of these three hut groups, there is a choice between a hut with luxury facilities (at De Hoek, Broederstroom and Woodbush) or less luxury and more standard facilities (i.e. at Dokolewa Pools, Seepsteen and Waterfall huts). The "standard facilities" huts all have either cultural-historic value or a beautiful natural setting whilst the luxury huts are all old forestry houses. The trails are laid out on the KLF- forestry estate but most of the walking is through indigenous tropical forests with ample streams.. |
