Basic Trail Description

The Kommandonek Hiking Trail is located in the Northern Free State outside Parys on the Schoemansdrift gravel road.

The following fauna and flora can be seen along the hiking trail. Game: Kudu, Oryx, and Hartman's Zebra. Trees: Velvet Bushwillow, Cabbage tree and Small Knobwood.

Day 1 is marked with a Sable Antelope spoor, +- 7km long. There is a beautiful view from the top of the mountain over the Vredefort Dome Area.

Day 2 is marked with a Water Monitor spoor, 4.5km long. Lots of otters and water birds can be seen along the route.

Game trips are available as well as fly fising and mountain biking.
