Basic Trail Description:

If ever there has been a versatile tailor made in South Africa, this is it. The trail starts at the guesthouse in Port Alfred. Hikers are transported every morning to the next leg of the trail. In the afternoons they are being picked up and escorted to another B&B or the luxury Lighthouse at Great Fish Point overlooking the ocean. Everything is organized in a very professional and luxurious way. Furthermore there are numerous pick-up points along the trail for those who find the going hard.

The tides are taken in to consideration so that hikers always walk on nice hard sand. Even the direction of the wind (as well as rain) on any particular day is taken into account and the direction of walking adapted to it. Along the trail, which mainly follows the coastline, there are a number of other activities included to make the more than a hiking experience. Other activities include a dinner on the Bushman's River on the floating restaurant, a canoe ride in the indescribable beautiful Kapp River Nature Reserve, and a sundowner boat cruise up the Kowie river from Port Alfred for a wilderness experience together with the fish eagles, otters and big game.If that was not all, there are options for horse riding, kayaking, game drives and water skiing.

Historical and natural features such as the Diaz Cross, the largest shifting dune fields in the southern hemisphere and shipwrecks are some of the extra features along the trail River crossings are circumvented by vehicle so as to maximise the safety of hikers. Whilst the normal trail duration is 5 days, shorter options are available to suit every hiking group.
