Basic Trail Description

The Brook Hiking Trail lies in an area called Africa’s little Scotland, in south-eastern Mpumalnga. This is where the grassland of the highveld plateau gives way to the tumbling valleys forming the start of river systems flowing eastward. Falling away to the northern valley of the Komati River basin, flows a number of brooks, twisting their way down the 440m descent to combine and form the Muzentu Stream.

The trail consists of 1 full day and and 2 half day hikes starting from the Muzentu hiking hut which is a restored farmhouse sleeping 26 people situated on the highest point of the trail with a breathtaking view.

The weather can often be misty and cold and hikers should provide for warm clothes all year round.

This is an ideal trail for the whole family who have children above 10 years. Those who stay behind can enjoy short, easy and interesting walks to the north of the hut or do trout fishing.
